I had created a pool of 250 virtual desktops with some task, knowledge and power users.I was testing boot storm scenarios with VSAN datastore. while doing so I rebooted 250 Virtual desktops from vCenter and trying capturing time to see it available in View Administrator which took approximately 14 Min.
Upgrading from VMware Horizon View 6.0.1 to 6.2.1 causes connections to throw the error: “Unable to connect to desktop: There is no available gateway for the display protocol. Try again, or contact your administrator if this problem persists.”. Attempting to connect to VMware Horizon View virtual desktop through the security server throws the error: “Unable to connect to desktop: There is no available gateway for the display protocol. Try again, or contact your administrator if this problem persists.”. Feb 02, 2014 You notice that various virtual desktops in your VMware Horizon View 5.3 environment displays Protocol failure as the Status in the View Administrator: Solution. The following KB does a good job of explaining the various reasons why a Protocol failure would be displayed as the Status in the View Administrator.

I tried visiting lot of blog but couldn’t find any concrete solution to this, only questioned asked on the blog hence I decided to note down the steps and share the resolution with everyone.
Problem Statement : VMware Horizon View 7 – Protocol Failure error for Virtual Desktops
Resolution :
- Go to View Administrator and check and note down name for desktops which are showing “Protocol Failure” error say e.g. Machine-43
- Go to vCenter and login to Desktop Machine-43 and check view Administrator where it shows status for the machine as “Connected”, now sign-out immediately
- Go to web Client > Power> Restart Guest and reboot the machine
- Go to view Administrator and check for the status where it will show “Available”
That’s it !!!
